The Sunshine Brings Me Back

A Poem

The Sunshine beings me back

A White Snake album cover

Set upon the dirt and grass

Was home plate for the day

Plastic bat and ball alike

Possibly from some discount store

The kind that crackles with every contact

Causal competition among coed classmates

Upon the backdrop

Of one of the great city parks

The City of Champions

The City of Bridges

Looking out toward a skyline like no other

Home runs and strikeouts

And sliding in mud

Left from former days of rain

In our own little world

For those few simple hours

That's where

The sunshine takes me back
