The Sun and the Storm

A Poem

There is a storm brewing.

I see it in the distance.

I smell it in the air.

I hear it on the wind.

The chilly breeze that swirls the green water of the pond also shakes the Autumn leaves from the trees.

My heart picks up speed when I hear the sudden rushes of the leaves blowing across the pavement.

Sunlight struggles to keep itself visible through the drowning clouds.

Everything shifts constantly.

Some moments feel as though there is no storm - when the wind hushes and the Sun is able to draw her breath from the coverage of the blackened sky.

Overhead, a dark, looming cloud rolls in like a soldier, marching in to extinguish it's nemesis.

The Sun does not move.

Rather, she rears her head with courage and remembers that this, too, shall pass.

And darkness falls.
