The Summer Is Now Over

A Poem of Loss and Sadness

The summer is now over

as the sun sets in the horizon of my dreams

the crows fly over a land

once filled with the cry of their elders

now they leave singing, mourning the dead

flying where the death does not know their names

The summer is now over

and I forgot to celebrate it

like the way I forgot to celebrate your eyes

the setting sun and its reflection in the sea

or your smile or your arms

so warm and gentle as it could be.

The summer is now over

and I'm sitting alone in a meadow

September wind howls in my ears

and blows away my memories

I've got the blues in my heart

and in my eyes, there is dust and tears.

The summer is now over

and I forgot to cherish

all that could be mine

but was not meant to be.
