Teach me how to hang on
And I'll show you how to let go
The world's too tough for soft teeth
And blood's too bitter for the unseasoned.
You tell me how to build my castle now
But first you'll have to love my hollow ground
Or else I might just have to walk it
For no home can stand on it for long
When the shark bites, I die with dignity
All innocent, red blooded, quaint.
Yet, starfish cuts his own limbs off
Gets on with life just fine
Only it's not him anymore;
He's left his softest parts behind him.
Show me how you let go
And I'll teach you how I hang on.
