The Stages of Love

To think you only experience it once is the biggest lie ever told.

I thought I had felt love at the age of five.

The hair on my favorite doll ruined,

The Florida sun drying up my tears.

I assumed I felt love when I was ten.

The handlebars of his bike digging into my thighs,

My body numb to the pain.

I believed I had felt love at fifteen.

Her face covered in darkness,

Her laugh echoing throughout the night.

But looking at you,

Looking at me,

Looking at the ocean,

I know truly and indefinitely that I am in love.
