The Seagulls Are Crying

(Trigger Warning)

The thick grey clouds caress the sky;

a thunderstorm has come alive.

I inhale cold, sea air as the lightning strikes.

I feel the tightening of my mind as it fights.

An ache that seems to deepen into my bones.

I want to take flight.

Or dive in and sink beneath.

The ships bounce back and forth.

As high tides threaten to drown;

the rain glides down over me.

It’s pleasant against my body.

Thunder roars. I exhale.

Melancholy lingers deep in my chest.

Seagulls cry out as they glide through the clouds.

Who can tell that my tears aren't rain?

All the salt and the dirt, it’s the same.

How can I resist this urge to swim?

Veins in my head threaten to explode.

I hear the sails whipping around by strong wind gusts;

so refreshing against my skin.

The ocean glitters and my mind is at ease

as lightning cracks and thunder roars again.
