The Room

A Poem

The room is black.

I look around and wait for my eyes to focus.

I can start to see things

Everything is still fuzzy.

I look forward and see a door.

I stand up.

My body feels weak

I move slowly to the door.

When I reach it I twist its handle.

It is locked.

I start yelling for help.

I twist and pull the handle harder.

Nothing happens.

Everything is still fuzzy.

I start to pound at the door.

My fists slam against it.

Hoping to break the door.

Hoping to to escape from this darkness.

As I start to give up

A small glow of light appears to my right.

I slowly walk to it, it’s a widow.

When I get to it I am baffled.

Outside the window I see my friends.

They are sitting there.

Talking and laughing with each other.

I yell to them.

They don’t hear me.

I start hitting at the window.

It doesn't break.

They don’t see me.

I close my eyes and try not to cry.

I open my eyes.

I’m not in a room.

I’m sitting with my friends.

I’m laughing with them.

They think I’m happy.

But they still look fuzzy.

They still sound distant.

I still feel weak.

They think I’m happy.

I still feel trapped.

I need to escape.

They look at me.

They talk and laugh with me.

They think I’m happy.

They can’t tell I’m trapped.

That I’m still trying not to cry.

They think I’m happy.

I look happy.

I smile and laugh with them.

They think I’m happy.

They are too fuzzy to distant.

I’m pounding.

I’m slamming.

They think I’m happy.

I try to escape one more time.

I can’t do it.

They think I’m happy.

I see them.

They see me.

They think I’m happy.
