The Race
Pushing forward, she moves ever so swiftly
Catching her long ponytail in the distant breeze
She starts off slow, but works her way towards gaining on the others
She knows what she must do
She must pace herself accordingly, and take very little breaks
She is getting close to the first milestone now
She sees almost all the others taking a break
She pushes forward at her own pace
Not paying attention to those off the sidelines
She feels the breeze on her oval shaped face now
She knows she has a way to go until the next milestone
But she pushes forward anyways running at a regular pace
Taking slow breaths in and slow breaths out as she moves
She feels herself beginning to want to move faster
But knows that if she does she will wear out before the next break
She feels confident that finally she can do this
She had a long road to get here, to get to this point
She fought her way into this race
She will fight, she will continue, she will finish
She paces herself and slows her stride ever so slightly
She sees the next milestone ahead
This time she goes off to the side and drinks some water
She doesn't stay long before she is headed towards the finish line
She feels the pull of her muscles, the ache in her back
But she doesn't stop, she keeps pushing forward at her own pace
She has taken a slight lead and can see the finish line
She takes bigger strides now, feeling the tension in her body
She takes in deeper breaths and pushes herself forward once more
Finally, she finishes the race, and her body is aching all over
But she is happy and confident, because she finished what she started
Not only did she finish the race, she won the race
She felt like this was what she was meant to do
To show others that you can achieve anything
She had won the race despite the obstacles she faced.
