The Only Love Poem

I imagine that when I see you for the first time,

I will see my future in the shade of your iris

and it will become my favorite color. All of the

problems that I have been dealing with will be

washed away and lost in the ocean of your smile.

The answers to my prayers will be in your voice

and I will hang onto every syllable you speak.

Every bat of your eyelashes will bring me a

new breath during the times I am suffocating.

My favorite song will be playing

with each beat of your heart. I will breathe

the air in your lungs like it is the

only oxygen I have ever known.

I want to get lost in the jungle of vines

that is your hair, swinging from strand to

strand with every stroke of my hand.

When I imagine you, I like to think that you will

have a walk that will make the stars want to fall

to Earth just to dance to the rhythm, and a body

that will make others question their god and switch

to your religion.

Every time you speak, you will be hosting a

TEDTalk with me as the only attendee.

Every time you sing, you will be holding

a concert, and I am the only VIP. When the world

is still and you are asleep next to me, I will finally

know what an angel’s breath feels like and i will

know that I finally got it right.

Feed my confidence and self-esteem with

the pastries you baked. I think you told me

the ingredients you used go as follows:

flour,

sugar,

eggs,

vanilla,

compliments,

support,

and unconditional love.

Help me fight off my self-doubt and anxieties

with a sword of reassurance and a shield of

all the reasons why I am the best thing that

has ever happened to you.

Keep a light on me at all times to

hide me from the darkness and I will

do the same for you.

Believe me when you read this poem for the

first time, because this is the first time I

am feeling this way. This is my first love poem,

and I want it to be the only love poem you ever read.
