The Night We First Met

Discussing Distress

The night we first met, I instantly knew I would not stop thinking about you for at least a week

At least

Night time swimming and conversation brimming with purpose

We discussed our distress with this reality and all the excess

What a mess

What a harsh, damn mess

And as we drove back

Fear would attack

You broke down the barriers

Told me of the track your life had been on

Wanting to move along

To feel some tender warmth and deep connection

Real emotion and soft perfection

I was hooked

We stayed pretty consistent

And I loved how present our conversations would be

When we discussed our shared entropy

The sadness encased in cultural melancholy

Our hearts were both broken

But by different beasts

And so hungry we were

But no food to feast

Just a hope that if we kept talking about how sad and sorrowful we were

Maybe

Just maybe

It would give us the courage to feel again

And from there to act

And in fact

I was asked why I found you so attractive

And no thoughts came to mind

For I would find

Our connection was deeper then I could think

It was a Heart felt drink

A safe brink for us to discuss

All the sadness, terror, fear and puss

You gave me hope of a better tomorrow

By being so honest with your genuine sorrow

We spent one night physically connected

And a few days mentally misdirected

And as I inspected

I found myself okay with the confusion

For you were worth that delusion

And although you said no

I knew my love would always grow

I knew that inside you was a glowing sun of wonder and strength so raw and radical it would crack mountains and break bridges

And so I crossed my own emotional ridges

I saw my sadness and let it be

Told myself you were worth all the misery

Kissed my pity goodbye and let my sorrow sink

So our friendship could build

And my love would be filled

And my heart would be thrilled

Knowing you were being true

I am so unbelievably glad I met you
