The Mortal Justice

And the Angels Wept

Death upon the earth does rage

And shakes the humble soil

Underneath the wars they wage

For power, peace and oil.

There’s blood in every quiet street

And hate in every vein,

Sold and packaged, nice and neat;

The government’s campaign.

The people pray out to be saved;

For justice, love and peace,

But this is not the contract made

When God had made men free.

“Come brothers to the balcony!

I hear the people call!

We must go now! The soul decrees

To end this wicked brawl!”

The angels watched in frenzied dread

As the feud of man did grow

And Justice retched and turned her head

From the horrors down below.

“I must go now” She feebly says,

“So many people cry.

They call for me, for justice

For the innocents that die.”

“Sister, this is not our fight,

And there will be repercussions.

You’ll have your chance to set things right

When their souls come for their judgement

You are not the law of man.

Man's law is revenge.

And if you step on mortal land

That day will be your end.”

“Then what of you, Peace, will you go?

Will their voices go unheard?

We cannot stay when down below

War marches on the earth!”

“Each choice of theirs has led to this.

These choices called for brother.

Man requires both War and Peace;

One cannot be without the other.”

In fury, Justice turned to leave

And grabbed her blazing sword,

She stormed upon the battlefield

To face her brother, War.

But on the way she heard the sound

Of a desperate woman crying

Standing over blood soaked ground

Where her murdered son was lying.

Justice looked upon the face

Of the tiny child slain

And the mother prayed for justice

For the man who caused her pain.

She found the killer as he fled

And raised her fierce steel high

She thrust it in his gasping neck

And watched him as he died.

But Justice was not finished yet

For now there was another death

And mortal law dictates this debt

Be paid with her own final breath.

And so she raised her arm again

And lifted up her head.

She slid the blade across her neck

And lay beside him dead.
