Barton Springs at Night

the moonlight poured over us as we

drifted through the cool water,

breath fogging in the cold night air.

he glanced at me with his calm

blue-grey eyes and it stopped my heart.

when we reached the algae covered concrete--

which was as hard as the muscles that

rippled with the water along his strong shoulders--

he pulled me up and looked into my eyes (also blue-grey),

i felt the water pool around my calves and his

hands around my waist, pulling me closer to his embrace,

and he kissed me, then whispered in my ear,

sending chills down my spine,

“i’ve been waiting to do that for a long time”
