Family Losses

Sometimes emptiness over powers my spirit

Sometimes I wonder what if

What if today was a day that you still

Walked this earthly ground

Gave me the gapped grin

Echoed your deep voice throughout the house

What if you met my youngest child

What if she deeply loved you

And you deeply loved her

Your chest never hurt

Your coughs never grew

And your lungs

They never harmed you

Your lungs were stronger

I bet I’d be stronger

I bet I’d have more joy

I bet I’d laugh more

A member is missing

Forever missing

And it’s you
