The Light

I’ve been thinking about what my first post should be. I will mostly be writing about mental health as I suffer with severe depression and social anxiety. So my first post is a poem I wrote back in 2014 when I was 17.

i once thought that I succeeded,

In finding the purpose to this thing we call life,

I thought my search had ended,

My heart beat faster and your eyes drew me in.

In the darkness you found me,

And you took my hand and guided,

You made me happy,

You made me smile,

You made me cry.

For hours I would stay up,

Being by your side,

Loving you and caring for you

All was right in the world.

But this was only a dream,

An illusion.

I didn’t see it coming,

I could sense a change,

All was not right.

The thief- for that was what I called him,

Stole you away,

I watched as he sailed you to his island,

I had lost you.

This feeling is familiar,

But each time it hurts,

Cutting deeper and deeper,

And I feel that nobody will ever fill the empty hole in my heart.

I got on my ship in the dead of night,

Determined to change your mind,

But I was a ship without a star to guide.

The more love you gave to him,

The more my light dimmed,

Until eventually,

My light went out.

So there I was in the dead of night,

Sailing without no light.

Now I am lost at sea,

With nobody beside me,

To hold me,

To comfort me,

To guide me.
