This is me whispering ‘adios’

This is goodbye.

This is my goodbye letter.

This is my ‘I wish it didn’t have to come to this’ letter.

This is my ‘if I could say see you later I would’ letter.

But this is my ‘you’re going down a path I can’t follow anakin’ letter.

This is my goodbye letter.

This is me wiping away tears,

This is me taking deep breaths

And screaming into pillows.

This is me looking into your eyes

And saying goodbye.

This is my goodbye letter.

This is my ‘I wanted to save you’ Letter

This is my ‘I could never save you’ Letter.

This is my ‘it wasn’t and will never be my job to save you’ Letter.

This is my ‘but for a moment—I thought I could.’ Letter.

This is my goodbye letter.

This is my ‘I loved you’ Letter.

This is my ‘and for a second I thought you did too’ Letter.

This is my ‘every boy before you did the same thing so why am I surprised’ Letter.

This is my ‘I thought you were different’ Letter.

This is my goodbye letter,

This is my ‘I can’t look at you without feeling butterflies’ Letter.

This is my ‘I’m afraid of losing you’ Letter.

This is my ‘but I’ve got to break free’ Letter.

This is my ‘I wish you’d never asked me to that dance.’ Letter.

This is my ‘I gave you my heart’ Letter.

This is my ‘I shouldn’t have’ letter.

This is my ‘I took it back broken and bruised’ Letter.

This is my ‘why do this, why you?’ Letter.

This is my ‘I can’t fall for you every time’ Letter.

This is my ‘I’ve got to follow God’s plans for me’ Letter.

This is my ‘and right now, they don’t involve you’ Letter.

This is my ‘I failed at guarding my heart’ Letter.

This is my ‘so I’m handing it to God for safe keeping.’ Letter.

This is my goodbye letter.

But this is also my prayer.

For you.

Though my friends don’t think you deserve it-

I'm gonna pray for you.

This is my prayer letter.

This is my ‘I pray for your protection’ Letter,

This is my ‘I’ll remember you fondly’ Letter.

This is my ‘I pray for you to have strength’ letter.

This is my ‘I hope life is everything you want it to be.’ Letter,

This is my ‘I pray God softens your heart someday’ Letter.

This is my goodbye letter,

But it’s also my prayer letter.

This is me waving ‘au revior’,

And praying ‘Lord protect him’ under my breath.

This is me writing ‘auf wiedersehen’

And praying ‘Lord keep him strong’ in my journal.

This is me whispering ‘adios’

And praying ‘Lord soften his heart’ in my soul.

TThis is my goodbye letter,

This isn’t see you later,

Or catch you on the flip side-

Or even that we’ll meet again...

this is peace in saying this dreadful word-
