"And the home of the brave..."

The land of the free

And the home of the brave

I used to be able to believe

But with the innocent incarcerated

And the little guy criticized

for walking down the street

I can’t believe that we’re all that free

And with every single difference

Making us intimidated and offended

Why do you care about the color of my skin

Or who I want between my legs?

With who we want to be ostracized

Because it’s change

And you don’t like it

I can’t believe that we’re all that brave

We all stand at the football games

At the baseball field

And we say words we could never really convey

They fall from our lips like an ingrained incantation

No one means what they’re saying

No one knows what they’re saying

In a county where the racism is at an all time high

Where you can’t love who you love

Or be who you want to be

We cannot stand upon our high horse

And call ourselves the land of the free

And until we are that

We shouldn’t be

We can’t be

The land of the brave.
