The Lament

Wasted Days

Wasted Days

The days of splendor and no care.

Some say do all in the days of your youth but,

I spent my days sitting on that bench,

As I watched the sunset behind the valley of age.

I did not build an ozone shattering rocket nor did I send a man to Mars.

I changed civilization for no man, neither did I set a world record worth any fame.

I did not save a dying cancer patient, nor did I reform national policies for the better.

I simply spent my days sitting on that bench of nothingness, hoping, mourning, wondering;

Watching the sunset behind the valley of age, as I wrote words like these in my diary.

My new home now is six feet under; there you will find me lamenting my wasted days.
