The smell of citronella bracelets and open-air fills our lungs.
The patter of light raindrops teases our skin.
The sun caresses our faces with its warm touch.
The lake laid out like a shimmering invitation,
sparkles and glows like a magical paradise.
The house, a shifting reality as fickle as our imaginations,
becomes anything and everything a child's mind can think up.
The taste of bug juice sodas and pink ice cream with gum balls hidden in the bottom hangs on our stained lips.
Our hidden escape,
our fairy fortress,
a private magical battleground,
or maybe just a lake house.
Whichever it was that day didn't matter,
it would always be our Vermont.
