The Hermit

Losing It All to Greed

The hermit ponders

Wrinkled beyond time

And aged by time

The hermit lurks

His home in the woods

Feeds his dogs

Reads his books

The hermit loves

His wilderness woods

His life long ago

Was full of riches and fame

But in a night of greed

It was all lost with a snap

A family he once had

Left in the dead of night

Taking everything left

And leaving the hermit alone

So he left in a hurry

With the clothes on his back

Made a new home hundreds of miles away

Surrounded by life he never knew

Never looking back

But of a family he loved

Never could go back

To face the shame he brought

That night he dreamed

A reunion he could rejoice

With the children he left

Never to wake to see it come
