The Great Tom Turkey

The Thanksgiving turkey is indeed quite that.

He has a short yellow beak

And wears a black hat.

His round, chubby body laughs when he gobbles

From the top of his wattle way down to his laurels

His beady little eyes can see everything

So, you’d better stop your bellyaching

He flies through the night

on a cornucopia

Despite his flying phobia

No stuffing shall come near this fancy bird

For he is one to be adored

He gives autumn gifts to good girls and boys

Fruits, leaves, chocolate, and toys

On the Eve of every Thanksgiving

Please leave out some cranberry muffins

And in the morning, you’ll shout with joy

At your gifts of fruit and toys

But if you forget and still expect

You’ll wake up in a turkey’s nest

For dinner!
