The Frigid Air

"Keep running my love, don't stop till you're safe."

"Don't let me go!

I can't breathe

Please my love,

Save me."

Her bare feet hit the tile floor

Her rapid breathing is heard

She is running for her life

She wants to go home

She swings open the door

Into the snow storm

She has no other choice

She takes a step outside

And gasps at the cold

A gunshot is heard from within the building

The person that she loved

Is now dead

All that she lived for was now gone

And that was her cue to leave

She ran through the snow

Desperate to stay alive

Blood from her hand dripping in the white snow

The stains in her shirt bigger as she ran.

Six more miles until she reaches the nearest town

She had already ran two

She hit the ground hard

And she gasped for air

She had never ran so far

But she was scared of what could happen

If she stopped

For the man whom almost killed her

Had killed so many before her

The frigid air

Killing her lungs

As she fell to her knees

In front of a moving car

The snow fell on her brown hair

And her body lay there

Cold as ice

From the frigid air

A man with a badge stepped out of the car

And lifted her from the ground

And helped her into his car

She was finally safe

From all harm

And from the frigid air
