The Four Hundred Words of Pain

Poem

You came to me with a broken heart and said this:

Why is the world one where life is just mist?

Who has the power to end a life so full?

No one deserves death, you’d rather it be without pull.

And that is what makes you so perfect, you know?

Life is but a dream, so some nightmares become so.

Keep your head up; realize that it’s not anyone’s fault.

So pull yourself from pain and don’t commit an assault.

Yet you can’t listen when you’re so immersed in pain.

The only way to go is not up, but insane.

You chose not to try; you default to the knife.

And that knife you bear causes me to have strife.

That strife doesn’t stem from you, but it’s from me.

The pain I had before you chose your fate, see.

I had more pain than you, but chose against sharing.

So I show you my own sorrow, now you’re staring.

Because you realized I was just as sorry as you.

We’d both been through it all, can’t you see, too?

I love life too much to let it fall away.

So here I am, I’m here on an indefinite stay.

Until my time comes, I will not make it arrive.

So you must understand now, I’m here to stay alive.

So let me tell you a secret about this life.

It is absolutely not yours to kill with a knife.

You must understand this, we’re all just simple puzzle pieces.

And our world can’t be filled unless we release it.

Release it into the arms of someone we trust most.

There’s always one we tell our all—they’re our ghost.

What truly is the point of this game of life?

No one knows the truth not even about the afterlife.

It’s up to us cause we’re all on our own

The goal in life, is to reap what we’ve sown.

The world will still go on, even without you here.

But it’s you who can make a difference, don’t fear.

So don’t you dare give up, just 'cause she did.

She lost, you can win, so live for her, kid.

Don’t go on pretending life can’t be good at all.

View the world as something meaningful, or else you’ll fall.

And falling is a necessity, it’s all up from here.

So go out, enjoy life, don’t become alone again, dear.
