The Feeling of Living

A Question of Life

The pounding beat of a heart, vibrating our chests non-stop from the moment we are born. The feeling of blood flowing freely through each vein, searching for its final destination in order to keep us alive. Is that what living feels like? Is the feeling of living the feeling of being alive, or is it more? With each breath, slow or rapid, faint or heavy, we all seek to keep our bodies alive, leaving the breath of our souls sometimes forgotten. Embracing such a vital part of ourselves, however, provides an array of feelings very distinct from those of simply surviving.

Put on the bountiful and beautiful earth to live and flourish, we have found the root of life within meaningless objects. As a delicate species now so dependent on the nature of love and companionship, we have forgotten to aid our clinging souls which find no life within material things. In the past, the primitive principles we hold as humans have held back the lives of such a spirit from embracing the reality of what if feels like to live, however such beautiful experiences of life are addicting to the spirit, and once felt, cannot be held back by primitive foundations. To feel blood rushing through your veins, a feeling of drive and warm adrenaline, the rush of the world’s daunting adventures, all sending a sense of life to our spirits. Feeling alive is to feel your heart studder at the glimmer of beauty, to feel the sensation of adventure, to feel the cold crisp drops of rain upon your skin at nightfall and rather than find a dry towel, you find a partner to share the heavy drops of tears from the dark, infinite sky. And as your feet begin to feel numb from the icy drizzle, and your teeth begin to chatter from shivers, you wonder what life is for, because after all here you are standing in the rainfall… but what if this is what life is for? What if life was seen as for living these small moments of shivers and shakes, seemingly miniscule moments in the oh-so grand scheme, but are they miniscule in our little schemes?

Love is the most important aspect to living. Without love, we can survive, but can we enjoy the life we preserve? Whether a person, a place, an act, the grand gesture of love defines us as humans. Without it, why do we do what we do? Why would we go on long walks, admiring the scent of each yellow daisy we pass and thinking of how it reminds us of our lover? Why would we need to capture the graceful ocean and its sapphire glow into a frame for others to see? The answer is simple- we wouldn’t. The feeling of love drives us to do what makes us feel, for that is the true desire we all have for this life. To feel each beautiful aspect of life is our greatest want within the vast journey we have embarked upon, and such a feeling can only be accomplished truly through living the life we are given to the fullest of its potential. By embracing each moment to feel the warm touch of another’s hand grazing against your own, or the cool, loud splash of finally jumping into a lake upon the awaited end of spring. These are the feelings to live for, for these are the feelings that give us a reason to live.
