The Fall

A Poem

Driving.

On a mission.

Finding something I've always wanted.

But I found something more.

You gaze at me and smile.

Pupils large.

Gently your iris cradles them.

Peeking out only to share a short story of your past.

An eclipse of hazel brown capturing me.

The whites of your eyes like sun rays beaming out.

Blind.

That's what love is right?

You reach out.

Hands tough as sand paper.

Yet gentle.

They glide across my skin like feathers.

You pull me close.

Warmth radiating throughout my being.

Goosebumps surge over me.

I am safe here.

I sigh.

A perfect surrender.

Though illuminated with feeling.

I knew this would happen.

Weeks ago.

Stopped.

You glanced at me.

A chance taken.

My head gently cradled in your hands.

You pull me in.

Our lips meet.

Dazed.

I feel my soul lift.

Heart pausing.

No sound to be heard.

Just the touch of our lips.

The feeling of our embrace.

Lips parting.

My heart beats again.

Hard, loud.

Bones shaking.

Heart crashing as I fall.

More awake than ever.

I want you.

No - need.

My eyes open.

They see only you.

Returning to reality.

We drive.
