The External Emptiness

The Loneliness Poem

Looking behind to see if someone is there

Looking ahead to see what might be there

And hoping that someone stands near

Following advice just to act as yourself

But being criticised and excluded for not being someone else

Trying to recreate yourself into something else

Following the path in the search of filling that void

Looking around to find that one noise

But only returning to the same empty void

Listening out in the hope to hear a voice

Scanning the view for someone to notice me pass by

But instead, turning inside oneself as a last resort

Slowing breaking down in the shadow alone

Coming to terms with what you have got

And wishing that you had so much more

"The most terrible poverty is loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved." ~ Mother Teresa
