The Enemy
"...a casket signed by the society that built you..."
picture perfect pretty posture
protruding pieces of bone
day dreams of dieting
and deathly dainty goals alone
aren’t the enemies that I know
Tv screens teaching me
size does matter
copycat their contour
if you aren’t like them you’re fatter
new york city dreams
“mind the gap”
hypocritical clothing seems
“mind the gap”
handfuls of pharmaceuticals
and vicious vitamins
concocted in a cocktail
so i wont eat to be thin
charismatic characters almost like twins
tabloid trash talk is where torture begins
mia and ana promise they’re your friends
but carping and cracked is where it all ends
one size fits all feminine tv shows
preaching “thin is in” “low’s the way to go”
a pound here, a restriction there
calories cutting close
1,000, 500,
let’s see how low we can go
fasting like it’s a feast
watch the number drop down
not enough, never enough
there’s still too many pounds
pinch the fat until the bruises are badges
skeletal fingers desire to dance in my bodies chasms
then it clicks and it’s got you
you’ve got ticks but you’ve got value
you’re finally perfect but you’ve lost everyone
but it was worth it, you’re proud of what you’ve done
but it’s not enough and no one
has called your bluff when you said you were done
but you skip supper and swim in circles
you circle areas and pinch them purple
zyou want to rip the fat off with only your bare hands
this isn’t what I want, this wasn’t the plan
i’m alone and cold, clumps of hair are falling in my hands
then it bursts like a dam, you’ve lost it all
flip the script to another chick flick inflicting false image
fine prints on fine lines between dying and beautiful women
disorders against food is the new fasting fade
frequently fat shaming teens finally feel bad
when you’re skin and bones in your new home
a casket signed by the society that built you
the enemy is not in you or me, the enemies are the celebrities our children look up to
