The Door

A new door appears/ I can finally hear you knocking

the old sorrows fade away

and a broken heart recovers from its decay

after years of waiting in the darkness

after years of tears/ happiness

after years of hatred/ peace

after years of self-regret/ understanding

the chains have been broken/ no longer grief's token

the fabled time thought to be mere lore

and so I now return to the door

with the simple promise of something more

as I step forward the past trails spill unto the floor

speeding throughout the path all the memories of gore

that once my heart they tore

each scar a coat of armor

each defeat a medal

each doubt a story

each year a journey

each rejection a lesson

each challenge a test

yet now I can have rest

as I stand once again before the door there is no fear

for it is your footsteps I can here

It's time it's time you're finally there

the one I will hold dear

a presence nothing can block

a moment that has to wait forever on the clock

however, no more for I now hear your long awaited knock

and I know for once someone is behind the door

and who could ask for anything more
