What kind of animal is a cow?

It’s not an elephant or a moose,

Though they finagle the word somehow.

The elk and the walrus also use

This three-letter sound that starts with cee,

From all the utterance they could choose.

This isn’t about the manatee,

The okapi, or rhinoceros,

Except they have cows as well, you see;

And so does the hippopotamus

And the ocean denizen, the whale,

Which makes it the more preposterous.

The caribou mama doesn’t pale,

And even the dolphin takes a bow;

In having the same word for female.

It isn’t for me to disallow;

But putting the bull aside for now,

What kind of animal is a cow?
