The Concept of Assumption
Good Within This Wrong
The human mind
Relies on the concept of assumption.
Our minds
Have been mechanized
To assume what we have yet to know,
Such as assuming a future for us—
Whether as individuals
Or as a whole.
Nevertheless,
Without this daring expectation,
Our minds would not function;
For we would be perpetually lost
Without this sense of direction.
Assumptions allow for us to have aspirations—
Hopes for future achievements,
Desires that create a road
Intended to be navigated.
All things considered,
Who would we be
Without aspirations?
Who would we be
Without this self-constructed road?
The answer is simple:
We would not be.
While in various circumstances
Assuming is an act of poor judgment,
As when one assumes
That it is acceptable
To borrow someone else’s belongings
Without asking,
There is one exception,
And this is it.
If we were to not assume a future life,
We would not have the motivation to live;
For we would not know what to live for.
And if committing the metaphorical crime
Of assuming the unknown
Is what it takes
In order for us to live motivated lives,
Full of Purpose,
When we shall forevermore
Be criminals.
