The Calico Cat

Little Critters in the Sun

"Ya ready to play?"

The calico cat from across the street

Tramps round on the drive, like he wants to meet;

The ole alley dog comes bounding away.

“Hey, calico cat, ya ready to play?”

~

The calico cat does a little switch;

The ole alley dog goes down in the ditch.

A striped raccoon snaps out of his daze,

“Ole alley dog, are ya up for a chase?”

~

The ole alley dog slumps back to the shade;

The striped raccoon goes out for a raid.

A bright spotty frog comes out of its place,

“Striped raccoon, why ya hiding ya face?”

~

The striped raccoon reels off like a cad;

The bright spotty frog hops up on a pad.

A little green snake slips out of the fold,

“Bright spotty frog, wanna see what I hold?”

~

The bright spotty frog leaps up and away;

The little green snake curls up in the hay.

A blue dragonfly dips over its head,

“Oh, little green snake, ya call this a bed?”

~

The little green snake makes nary a sound;

The blue dragonfly just flutters around.

A man with an eye-box, still as can be,

Says, “Blue dragonfly, hold steady for me?”

~

The blue dragonfly lights onto a leaf,

The moment of shine is poignant and brief.

Oh, we had our fun in the sun today,

When the calico cat came out to play.
