The Bones

These bones aren't yours for the taking. This body isn't yours to possess.

Don't touch these bones

These bones of mine aren't meant for you

These bones

They made me who I am

They're strong darling

Strong in a way that has nothing on your 'powerful' hands

wrapped around my wrist

You don't know what these bones have seen

They've seen nations rise and fall

Hearts break and mend

They've seen life and they have seen death

War

And peace

Just as Icarus saw the sun and the sea

But these bones won't melt

Nor will they burn

They're so much more than you know

They've been broken and bruised

But these bones will never crumble darling

Certainly not at the hands of someone who's soul is so weak

And for whom respect is but an illusion

These bones

They aren't for you to ruin

One day I'll lay them down

Turn them to dust

Let them return to the earth from which they were born

But not today darling

And not because of you.

These Bones are Mine
