The Blue Oxymoron

we survive how we can

You wear blue you carry a gun and a badge

only goes to show how little struggle you've had

you uphold our laws decide what's right and what's wrong

have you ever had to do what we've done

we survive how we can

together or apart we always manage to stand

think your better then us because you haven't been behind bars

haven't had to fight to save your own life

do you sleep with a knife under your pillow tonight

wondering if it's the day it all goes away

maybe this time the shit you stick me with will stay

you blame our parents, say they raised us wrong

hold us to the standards, were unable to follow

yet you're right we're the ones in the wrong

we rise up, you push us down using your batons riot shields spray us to the ground

yet we keep on and you wonder to yourself

why are they still here, haven't you put enough in the ground

you've cleared our cultures

smashed them to the dirt, and if god is my witness

wait how does that work, you make us swear on a bible,

yet won't teach it in schools

how are we supposed to learn when you keep changing the rules

guilty until proven innocent yeah that is what you say

yet you've seen us as guilty, painted us that way

you walk in the streets, in your white cars with the lights

red and blue flashing, who's life are you messing with tonight

doesn't matter the reason why

we've done what we've done it's all to survive

scar our wrists with your metal bracelets take our children

paint us as disgraces, yet when you're standing there

with your boys in blue

you've got the law the man the power behind you,

what do we have besides what we fight for

we struggle and grind, so our kids will have a life worth living for

so before you judge the scars on our skins

maybe you should sit where we've been

take a walk through our poverty

go hungry to feed your own

maybe then you'll realize all we've ever been is grown

the pain that we bear isn't just on our sleeves,

it's adapted our minds our hearts our dreams

we fight on our own because that's to whom we depend

can you really say you've done this with your trust fund friends

they say that we are free yet you tie us down

the law is the law, but should we pretend

keep us inline keep us docile while you profit

keep your pockets full

while we sit here on the docket

time served, lesson learned yet we struggle just the same

the only breaks you give is to your own kind

that's all I'm saying

how do you expect us to breathe easy tonight

with our hearts torn out struggling for life

do you expect us to magically be able to pull it from our asses

maybe it would work if for once we had full glasses

not stuck with the remains of the lives you've drained

place us into the system so your quotas are full

yet I don't think you realize that in doing this

your causing more problems

stirring more shit

so maybe just once if you tilted the scales in our hands,

we wouldn't have to grovel, wouldn't have to break

the laws that you wrote and expect us to follow

to serve and protect that's supposed to be your motto

who do you serve when you accuse without proof

who do you protect when we're out here dying

how are you following the codes that you've written

but when all is said and done

up there you stand with us on the ground

blue pants blue shirts, a gun a badge, and a book in your hands

what's right and what's wrong

yeah that's a load of shit

it's what's right for you, and what can cause you the problems
