The Blank Page
Every Writer's Nightmare
Every writer knows how
haunting
the blank page is.
The white,
blank,
empty paper.
It thirsts for your creativity,
it's hungry for your ideas,
it needs your talent
to be written on it.
The greatest art
has been written from
the blank page.
Orwell, Shakespeare, King, Hemingway...
They all started with nothing but a pencil
and the blank page.
You stare at the page,
wondering what masterpiece you will create on
the blank page.
It haunts you.
You don't know what to do.
You know in the literal sense,
you have to write something.
But write what?
What should you write?
What should you write about?
What do you want to discuss,
challenge,
or propose
with your writing?
The page is still empty.
You start to feel empty with it.
Maybe...
Maybe you have no more ideas.
Maybe you have no more new opinions.
Maybe you have nothing left.
You walk away.
You leave the page.
Perhaps it's over.
Until,
you're standing in the shower,
away from it all,
and an idea strikes you,
strikes you like a thousand-ton basket full of light bulbs
that you cannot wait to turn on.
You run out,
run to the page,
the blank, white, empty page,
and fill it with your masterpiece.
And it all started
with just you,
the pencil,
and the blank page.
