The Bird

Another Poem by 16-Year-Old Me

I wish I was a bird.

So I could fly far away.

As I lay here and stare out my window,

A bird taunts me.

As the memories haunt me.

Lord, I need help.

Save me.

I just want to come home.

Maybe then I can at least be okay.

I'd give anything to just be okay.

Just, okay.

I'm not normal.

As you can already tell.

I'm sorry I'm not what you wanted.

I'm sorry I can't be perfect.

But I can't help who I am.

Who I've turned out as.

And I can't go back and change anything.

So I guess I'll just sit here,

And stare out my window,

At the Bird.

He seems like he cares.

He stares back.

And all of a sudden I'm numb.

I'm gone.

So, tell me...

Are you happy now?
