The Believer
A Letter of Empowerment and Thanks to the Woman Who Gave Me My Voice
Spoke to someone today who actually heard me,
Heard me for the first time.
I wasn't really trying to put myself out there
But she saw something that was worth more than a minute of her time.
She listened,
She waited,
She heard my story.
She loved every part
Even though some of it was quite gory.
And then she told me something,
Something I don't think I'll forget the rest of my days.
She told me:
"This is it, Hope.
You have something- a gift.
Don't throw it away."
So here I am before all of you
Asking you to hear me too,
Just as she did.
I'm asking you to believe in me.
I know I'm just a kid
But I have something to say,
Something that needs to be heard.
I have a story to tell
If I could just get over these nerves.
This isn't for attention.
I hope I'm not casting my pearls before swine.
I'm just asking for a sign.
Cause this is all so new;
Someone tell me what to do.
Do I hide it?
Do I speak?
The last time I tried I was knocked off my feet.
I'm not trying to be haughty,
I'm not better than you.
But I am better than me-
Betterthan I've ever been.
And I just want to share this with
Someone,
Anyone.
I'm tired of hiding,
Cowering in the corner like a fool.
This is my time.
I know I can be great.
I just need a chance for someone to listen to my heart,
Before it's too late.
