The Anteater and the Crocodile

A Love Story of Sorts

Have ever thought about a crocodile?

Steve Irwin said "Crocodiles are easy.

They try to kill and eat you.

People are harder.

Sometimes they pretend to be your friend first."

And I never realized how true that was.

But when you look in an animal's eyes

You seem to know what it's going to do.

But when I looked in your eyes

Everything that came after

Was a complete surprise.

Who knew a person

Could cause so much trouble.

Who knew heartache could ache so bad.

And that no one could see it

Because the anteater looks cute

To everyone unless you're the ant.

Maybe I was the ant.

But they still say that me letting you

Devour me whole was all my fault.

I should have learned how to walk away.

But at one point I wasn't the ant.

At one point you were just a person

Who seemed to get me when no one else did.

Then things turned.

And suddenly you became the crocodile

Or the anteater.

However you want to see it.

And I was the ant

Or possibly the die eyed gazelle.

I became your meal that you used

to feel a void and keep you entertained.

You juggled me like you were a jester

And I was nothing but wooden balls

Tossed in the air helpless.

What was I to do?

And so I have been three things

Since I've met you.

I have been the fool

For loving a man who only loved himself.

And I have been the ant

So small in the shadow of an Anteater.

And now I'm the juggled balls

Forever stuck in your cycle

With no word in for myself.

That's what happens when you allow yourself

To be treated like the prey.
