Oh nose job! How I dream of you in technicolor,
Black and white, I see you everywhere —
my phone screen here, the telly there
Your cacausianality haunts me, teases me
Although I know I am better off embracing my
individuality—the flatness of my bridge, the
roundness of my tip and yet—I dream of you oh so silently
"The American Teen" is a short poem (not perfected of course) that explores the effects of Eurocentric beauty standards on a young non-Anglo teen, specifically indigenous teens who are underrepresented in many areas, including beauty.
