That Line to Cross

To a Mother

Trying to Understand a Fallen Mother

You said there was a line that day

a thin line to cross

you said if you were to cross that line

there would be so much loss

I think I now understand this line

and what it meant to you

for if you were to cross that line

you wouldn't know what to do

I can forgive any part of you

that you feel needs be

but it's the repeated denial

that continues to haunt me

I am a mother now, the same as you

who loves her children too

but crossing a line to have to choose

there would be no more to lose

But if that reason you did not choose

was for a selfish heart

then I could not come to accept this

and maybe that's why we are apart

A mother that made the grisly choice of choosing man over her child. The results of making a mistake like that lasts forever. Both mother and child will suffer for the rest of their lives. If a mother cannot find it in herself to face the truth and to forgive herself for her choices and mistakes, she is not only hurting herself. She is hurting her daughter, even more.
