That Day

Black Mountains

Shattered, rock teeth

Tear through deep, green gums,

Hard and high,

Against a distressed sky,

Fat with unshed rain

And grime.

A sharp silhouette of age,

Anger and violence,

Distant echoes of the pain

That took this place

And made it now.

That day,

Up there,

The wind tore at our clothes,

Hair, twisting

Spirals of force,

Unseen but felt,

Freezing on skin,

To blood and bone.

But that day

We touched stones, those walls,

And climbed where death had walked.

Laughing through dark places and

Smiling selfies,

Against backdrops of slaughter,

Black and Beacons

That curled around us, below and above us,

Wild with beauty, glory and rough,

Blending into that vast ceiling of air.

And we breathed and lived and loved

That day.

About the Creator

D Hug

Writing poems inspired by anything and everything! The beautiful scenery of Gower and Wales, how I feel about what I see or experience, places, faces, animals etc. Anyway, my poetry is a mishmash but I hope you enjoy reading it.
