Tenderheart

A Poem

As a child she would sing to her plants

Wanting to give them joy and knowing that

Her air would nourish them and cause them to

Bloom faster than

If she left them alone.

She would then water them

Too much

Drowning them in her love because

She could not stop giving.

Tenderheart.

Innocent eyes.

Foolish hope for the return of love.

Committing every piece of her

Being to the satisfaction of others

Every moment spent on herself forcing skin to crawl

Suffocating her on the idea that she is

Not worth the time

Nurturing those around her

And hating that she loses a backbone in the process.

Despising every moment she shoves authenticity aside

To make way for generosity

But feeling a sense of purpose in every moment of

Service and care for others

As an adult her plants drowned and her lovers

Sucked her dry.

Time.

Money.

Attention.

Sex.

Sexual acts performed by Tenderheart

Ripped from her in her

Desperate attempt to make them show the same care she has for them.

She’s learning through

Regret soaked broken hearts and

Lips pressed with empty promises

Her care is important but needs internalizing as well.

Wrap your loving arms around your war-torn Tenderheart.

Hold yourself with the same care you would a lover.

And never

Let bitter hearts leave you cold.
