Taking in This Day

Be Present

Looking out

Into my backyard

On a clear,

And cool,

And vibrant summer day.

The grass

And the leaves

Are dancing playfully

With the wind,

And seem

To embrace

How fleeting

Yet infinite

This life is.

I myself

Sit from afar

Watching all of this

And taking all of this in,

As if seeing it all

For the first time.

My God,

Have I not taken

Enough moments in

To watch

The grass and leaves

Dance playfully

On a cool, summer day?

Or to watch

My pup

Lying herself

In the grass

Perfectly content

And in harmony

With all that is

And ever will be

With a broad,

Happy grin

On her face?

At least,

I suppose,

I remembered

To come out

Into the day

And sun

At all.

I’m really glad

I had a chance

To see

And be a part of this.

Feel free

To sit out here

With me

Next time

When I take in

Another glance

When I sit

And look out

Into my backyard.

You never know

What you might miss.
