T'was the Night of Our Dinner

Why Couples Should Not Fight

(Apologies to Clement Clarke Moore- 1779–1863)

T’was the night of our dinner

And all through our house

Not a creature was edible.

Not even a mouse.

The plates were stacked in the cabinet

And the fridge was completely bare

And the dreams of the wife again cooking—

Ah! She doesn’t care.

Our daughter was in bed

taking her eight-hour nap.

While our son was still up

Just practicing his rap.

And the wife put on her PJ's

and hopped in the sack.

So, I ran to my car

So I could bring some food back.

I came back in an hour

I drove for many a mile

To only come back to the wife

Standing without even a smile.

.

“I was still hungry.

I needed food now.

So, get out of my way,

You old, silly cow.”

So, she picked up an object.

What it was, I didn’t know.

And with her great strength,

She started to throw.

She threw plates and knives

And bottles of beer.

To be quite honest

I never knew what we had here.

“Stop throwing! Stop throwing,

I quickly said.

“If something hits me,

I will surely be dead!”

A pot hit me in the skull.

It was quite a dinger.

She stuck out her tongue.

So, I gave her the finger.

We quickly sat down

And had some more dinner.

To be very honest,

We each married a winner.

While we ate and ate.

That thing turned out alright.

When dinner was over,

We hugged each other tight.

We each learned a lesson

That night rather late

Instead of fighting,

We must communicate.

We married each other.

Our vows we won’t sever.

We should not fight.

And I mean that forever.

I married only her.

My name she did take.

Our love for each other

Must not be a fake.

It was a lesson to learn.

It is something we will know.

If we ever need something,

To each other we’ll go.

She is my partner.

A special part of me.

There is no other woman

I really want to see.

We love each other

I will honestly say.

I love my wife

Forever and a day.

And in closing,

We will be alright.

And to the rest of you,

Sleep well! Have a good night!!
