Symphony of The Storm
A Poem I've Written Depicting My Experience of the Winter Storm That Is Currently Affecting the UK
The snow is so deep
The sidewalk cannot be distinguished from the road;
The uncovered parts of the curb
Are like sections of a shipwreck
Poking up through deep mounds of sand
Dead leaves on tree-twigs
Rattle in the wind
Curled shells that are winter windchimes
Ring out the symphony of the storm.
The cold air takes a liking to exposed skin
And scrapes its erect bristles
As it nuzzles against you,
Like a cat greeting its owner on their return from a day at work.
The bristles sting at first
And then their numbing venom sets in
Dead leaves on tree-twigs
Rattle in the wind
Curled shells that are winter windchimes
Ring out the symphony of the storm.
At the end of the day
The falling snow ceases
The sun tries to melt the remnants before she is extinguished by the night
Her rays rinse one side of a suburban street
But her light is obstructed from reaching the other.
The untouched snow on this cold, shadowed stretch of pavement hides from her fatal fingertips
Like a child hiding
After disobeying their mother.
Dead leaves on tree-twigs
Rattle in the wind
Curled shells that are winter windchimes
Ring out the symphony of the storm.
