Sunrise

A Poem

That kind of story that makes you happy

Her mother, father, and older brother are all asleep. The sound of her bare feet shuffling to the kitchen fill the empty void of sound. She waits by the window for only one thing. She waits for the velvet black sky to dissolve into a dim rose gold, and for the stars to become wisps in the sky. Her slim fingers dance on the table, trying to make time fly. Her eyelashes carry weights, but she resists the pull of sleep. She quietly sings to herself, "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You never know dear how much I love you, please don't take my sunshine away." Her mother always sang this song to her when she was a baby. A bright flash of light hits her eye and she blinks rapidly, coming out of her daze of thought. At last she sees the dazzling sun, and all the wildlife bowing before it. The sun casts a brilliant beam of light on the morning dew. The cricket chirps fade, and the birds sing their melody in a chorus. The trees gently sway with the calm dash of wind, sending the scent of pine through the air. Her eyes twinkle in the midst of the light. She falls prey to the siren song of sleep, and drifts off while gazing at the sunrise.
