Sunflower

A Poem

Let me be your sunflower

Breathe me in each morning before you've even cracked open your eyes

Pick me from the soil and tuck me safely behind your ear

I want to be your yellow

Your sweet smell, hot burning sun rising

I'll be your happy pill

Smiles sliding down your throat leaving an everlasting lump

These days, it feels like the more I learn the less I know

But you have become my sunflower

My breath of fresh air, dirt underneath my fingernails

You are the heart of the flame

My glass of orange juice at 9 AM

My sweet numbness

From a world that is only gray.
