Street Lights

A Poem

Hiding in the darkness of the night, you'll see me sitting under the street lights. Hands in the midnight dew of the cold wet grass.

The reflection of green from the street light will remind me of North Carolina and the beautiful people in it. Late summer nights parked at Sonic's. No bad feelings, nothing toxic.

In a hoodie and sweats. With the yellow light, in the darkness of the night. Reminding me of the sun that will soon arise. Giving me yet another chance at life. Long hikes, with toes in the Kauai sand. Nothing but happiness, a summer nights tan.

And when that light turns red... I think of all the bad things at hand. All the poverty and death, all the blood on our hands.

But in that split second of the night, when the light is transitioning to change. I see the stars in the sky, Feel the blood in my veins.

I think of my mom and friends, how peaceful and quiet it is at night. If only there was a way to feel this in the light... I think then, maybe, i could turn out alright.
