Stranger in the Light
In the Dead of Night

Walking down
The darkened street,
Listening to dreary music -
I waited,
Watching for the midnight bus.
The song changed,
A new lullaby
Played quietly
Before a sharp noise
Rang out.
I went to change
The song -
To stop the shrill call,
But the screen was white.
The song became
Louder and louder.
It hurt my ears.
A drum started playing.
My head spun,
I couldn’t see,
My legs moved on their own
Across the street.
I froze
And turned,
A new picture before me
A new scene.
A man stood
Where I had stood.
And he gave a
Pained smile
His eyes narrowed
And he took a step.
He came closer
And closer.
My vision dimmed.
I could only focus on him.
Everything else warped,
And twisted into a new dimension.
Who is he?
Only the drum responds
Until a scream
Breaks me away,
And I run.
