Thoughts are much like strangers
Some loud and intrusive and proud
Upfront about their dangers.
Others are small, blending into the crowd
Sneakily creeping like a mole in the ground
But even in the background of your mind
You can feel them still making your head pound.
And more and more, I tend to find
That no matter the variety or the kind
Thoughts never do feel like a friend.
Never once have they comforted me while I cried
Or cheered me up again.
They resemble much more someone I’ve never known.
And yet, knowing this, I’ve kept them, and they’ve grown.
