Sticky Fingers
An Ode to the Beautiful Mess of Motherhood

Sticky fingers in my face
Tangled strands all out of place
Knees and elbows, sweaty toes
Surprise fingers up my nose
Stealing french fries from my plate
Any excuse to stay up late
"Dinner's ready..." "MOM I POOOPED!"
"LET IT GO" for hours looped
Bathwater splashing on the floor
"MOMMY WHY DOES DADDY SNORE?"
"Yes, you have to put on pants..."
"No, I don't know why they're called ants."
Midday phone calls don't work out
Everyone must scream and shout
Dragging myself to bed each night
Then miss them the moment I turn out the light
