Start as a Girl

Girl

I started as a girl lost in a world

A world I felt trapped in

Trying to escape the maze

While I was lost in a confusing haze

Getting through the day with a sarcastic grin

I started as a girl trying to get through

Walking with friends who came fast

Doing things I thought were me

But those things I wanted to flee

Slowly seeing that I was part of the wrong cast

I started as a girl who thought

Knowing what I wanted to believe

Saying little and doing less

My thoughts were like a game of chess

Few knowing what I truly perceived

I started as a girl who met a boy

A boy I thought I knew

Making me become someone I was not

Yet helping me find who I was on the spot

Making me realize it was to start a new

I started as a girl

Feeling less than human

Noticing things I felt were obsolete

Getting rid of people and changing the sheet

I started as a girl, I am turning into a Woman

Journey to Womanhood

This poem is about a young girl's journey to finding herself and seeing everything she no longer wants to be.
